Public swimming pools are inspected and tested for bacterial quality and compliance with safety guidelines and regulations. Sanitarians issue permits and supervise the installation of sewage disposal systems on new lots or existing properties. The primary goals of Housing Code Enforcement are to ensure safe and sanitary housing and maintain the existing housing stock for all of Norwalk’s residents. In addition, the Division investigates food-borne illnesses and complaints, conducts comprehensive lead investigations, monitors recreational and commercial shellfishing areas, provides beach and other water quality monitoring, and offers a weights and measures program.Ĭertified food inspectors are responsible for inspecting and licensing all food service operations within the City of Norwalk. Environmental Health’s responsibilities include inspecting restaurants and food service establishments, residential housing, septic systems, pools, salons, and daycare and nursery school facilities.
